Sick Kittens

Unfortunately, kittens can become sick or injured easily and if not treated quickly, they can become seriously sick.  If your kitten has any of the following signs of illness, then your kitten needs to be seen within 24-48 hours.​ Never assume that you’re “over-thinking” things or just hope that “it’ll get better”.

​In most cases, the first sign of a problem is not gaining weight. This can be either weight loss or weight just staying the same. If your kitten isn't gaining weight book an appointment ASAP!

 

If your kitten is showing any of the following signs then they need an exam

  • Not gaining weight

  • Losing weight

  • Weight staying the same

  • Not eating

  • Poor appetite

  • Diarrhea

  • Vomiting

  • Low energy

  • Hair loss

  • Green snot from eyes or nose

When should I book an appointment?

If your kitten is

  1. Gaining weight

  2. Eating well

  3. Active

If your kitten is...

  1. Not gaining weight (losing weight or weight is staying the same); or

  2. Not eating; or

  3. Low energy

  1. Vomiting AND diarrhea

  2. Bleeding

  3. Collapsed

  4. Seizure

  5. Struggling to breathe

  6. Any injury, e.g. kitten was dropped, sat on, crushed, bitten by dog, or hurt in any way
